Drug sales through retail pharmacies
in twelve key markets closed at $199 billion, an 8% growth
for the twelve-month period from September 1998 through to
August 1999.
- The world market continues
to be driven by strong sales in North America, where retail
growth remains stable at 12% - at $85.3 billion.
- Sales in the top five European
markets maintain the 8% growth, evident since April 1999,
with United Kingdom and Spain, in particular, showing an
1% improvement since last month - 9% and 12% respectively.
- The Japanese market valued
at $44 billion shows an overall 1% increase in the rate
of growth from 5% to 6% in the latest 12 months.
- The top 3 Latin American markets
are having mixed fortunes. An 18% sales drop in the largest
market Brazil and continuing decline in Argentina contrasted
with stable double-digit growth in Mexico.
